We are pleased to announce that our first Get Crafty program was a big success!
I’m a firm believer in hands-on learning and fun, and Get Crafty has these elements and more.
Our first program, finger-knitting, was based on a really cool book called I Love Knitting, which can be found in the Young Adult section. We had fun trying knitting with our fingers and with knitting needles. Even our teen aid, Jeremy, could be seen knitting a scarf. Or was it a belt? Most of the teens finished one scarf and either started a second one or took home yarn to get crafty at home.
On the first Thursday every month at 4:00, teens meet at the library for knitting, scrap-booking, beading, and various other artistic surprises Miss Tracy has up her crafty sleeve. Get Crafty always incorporates projects found in non-fiction books from the Young Adult section, which you can check out for more fun at home!
Our next Get Crafty program is beading and jewelry-making, based on another young adult book. Knitting was our first of many Get Crafty programs to come—we hope to see you there!
REMINDER: Watha T. Daniel Library also has a knitting club that meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Come check it out!
